Stabenow Accepts Debate Invitations from Grand Valley State University and Detroit Economic Club
Last five U.S. Senate elections in Michigan have held two debates at these locations

DETROIT - Following the long tradition of United States Senate debates in Michigan, Senator Debbie Stabenow's campaign today announced she will participate in two debates with GOP nominee Congressman Pete Hoekstra. The Stabenow campaign has accepted debate invitations from the Detroit Economic Club and Grand Valley State University, the two locations where debates have been held in every Senate election since 1996. WGVU Public Media will televise its debate and offer the program for airing on seven public TV stations and all public radio stations across the state.

"We look forward to debating the issues important to Michigan families at the Detroit Economic Club and at Grand Valley State University, as candidates have done in Michigan's last five senate elections," said Cullen Schwarz, Stabenow campaign Communications Director. "Congressman Hoekstra's giveaways to special interests while in Congress and his work at a Washington lobbying firm will be hard to explain away, especially in contrast to Debbie's record of standing up for Michigan's middle-class families."

The two one-hour debates the Stabenow campaign has agreed to will provide Michigan voters with significantly greater opportunity to hear from the candidates than Congressman Hoekstra provided voters during his primary. Congressman Hoekstra agreed to just one 30-minute debate only several days before the primary election.

Finalization of the debates will be contingent on agreement between the Stabenow and Hoekstra campaigns on debate dates, format and other details.
